Most yards here are Bermuda in the open sun and St. Augustine under the older shade trees. Often both in the same yard. We cut and feed them differently.
Fine blades, loves full sun
Cut at 2 to 3 inches. Goes tan and dormant once nights stay under about 65°F. Scalping it to clean up brown thatch just invites weeds.
Broad blades, handles shade
Cut at 3 to 4 inches. It needs more leaf left on it. Cut it short and it thins out and weeds move in.
